Great microscope for fossil prep, electronic work or mycology. I purchased this for the latter, it’s important to know what your getting before you purchase this specific model. This model does not have Simlu-view so you can’t use both the eye pieces if you have the camera activated. It also has a small variance in focus when switching from camera to the eye pieces. The main reason i picked this model up is to work with mycelium cultures. Having 8″ of working distance is really critical for my work. Keeping my scalpel under the lens is tricky but it can be done without bumping too much. I’m surprised at how much I like the light that came with this unit. Sometimes mold or yeast can be very difficult to spot under the same lighting so being able to change the LED’s around really helps make things pop off the plate. The stand is quite heavy and works well for my use. I’m glad I went with this model since it holds focus a bit better than some of the swing arm models. The two downsides to this microscope are the price (should be closer to $800 for this model) as well as the camera. The camera is the same one I’ve been using on my other Trinocular setup and isn’t the best. Its USB only and the resolution leaves a bit to be desired. It gets the job done but I’d much rather buy the cheaper camera-less model and buy a higher resolution HDMI version separately. AM scope really needs to revamp their website, I’d be happy to buy more of their products if they clearly explained which parts fit on which models. All in all, this is a pretty good microscope for someone that needs a good amount of working distance while still having a decent magnification rating.
